Iran and Germany are two countries that have experienced a lot of ups and downs in the 20th century; moreover, they share a lot of cultural, political and historical links. These links are blended into each other in a fascinating way playing their role in the destiny of these two countries. Citizen Irene is a documentary film about the political, social and cultural relations between Iran and Germany during the 20th century. In this long documentary, a German woman who is resident in Iran since 1938, narrates her own one century-long, life story through the lines of all the political and social changes happened during the 20th century and bestows in this way a humanistic and palpable dimension to the contemporary history of Iran and Germany. The film offers a parallel narrative of the drastic political and social changes experienced in these two countries on the hand of rich first-hand films and photos gathered from the personal archive of the narrator and other resources. Citizen Irene is also the first documentary film concerning the relation between Iran and Germany.
